Education: Using Third Term to Increase Enrollment in First Term
Education: Using Third Term to Increase Enrollment in First Term.
By: HEI Nigeria Lead Director, Da-Silva Johnson.
The Success of Schools especially in this part of the world is largely dependent on numbers of enrollment in that School. The right view should have been performance of learners but ofcos, and to a large extend, good performance is expected to attract more enrollment as a reward.
To increase enrollment in the first term using strategies, let us consider the following which shall begin with retention and a journey that must be notable right from third term.
1. Retention Strategies.
The first success point begins by retaining your ward at the end of third term. Counting them at the beginning of first term and none missing for any reason. When you are successful retaining the learners, addition becomes easy if you sustain same strategies such as :
> Improve Student Experience: Gather feedback from second-term students to identify areas for improvement in the third term.
> Enhance Academic Support. Offer additional academic support services, such as tutoring or mentoring, to help students succeed at the end of third term.
Foster a Sense of Community. Encourage student engagement and community building through events, clubs, or organizations.

2. Recruitment Strategies.
It should be factual to say that quality of teachers and management determines outcome of learners performances and conduct. Focusing on enrollment ignoring the teachers factor would be a grave mistake. Therefore :
> Leverage Second-Term Success Stories. Share testimonials and success stories from second-term students in third term as you interface with Stakeholders or using the media, to attract new students to the first term.
> Offer Incentives. Provide incentives to teachers in third term which can help in returning the teachers and attracting more to the school to handle pressure that is expected in first term due to more enrollment.
Targeted Marketing. Use targeted marketing campaigns in third term to reach potential students who may be interested in the school. You can sponsor radio or television programs, use the social media and sponsor, use the news media etc.

3. Communication Strategies. Communication cannot be undermined in getting results when Enrollment is involved. If the school can afford it, a School Public Relations (PR) system can be set up or engage School Secretary to manage a school Relations committee and let them be involved in effective publicity and One – on – One interaction with Stakeholders. In communication , ensure the following :
> Clarity. Ensure clear and timely communication with existing students and potential ones about the benefits and value of schooling in your school. Don’t assume they know since they are directly benefiting those values but might not be able to itemized the values. Teach them.
> Regular Updates. Provide regular updates on the first term at third term, including special subjects, extra curricular activities, teachers quality and qualifications, and address hanging complaints for your wards and parents.
Personalized Outreach. Engage in personalized outreach to potential students, including phone calls, emails, or in-person meetings. Remember, face attracts change.

4. Data-Driven Decision Making. Decisions are made daily but how many are traceable or formal? Data driven decision makes things formal and records intact for future references and daily guide for operators. ‘DD’ should be activated using these guide:
> Analyze Enrollment Data. Analyze enrollment data from the first and second term to identify trends and patterns in third term.
> Identify Areas for Improvement. Use data to identify areas for improvement in the first term right from the third term and implement actions right from the third term. It could be aiding effective learning, correcting abnormalities either from learners or teachers, infrastructure development or adjustment etc and as you can afford.
Track Progress. Right in the third term, Track progress and adjust strategies as needed to increase enrollment in the first term.

5. Consider End of Term Mini- Seminar. Most Schools prefer conducting seminar close to holiday ending and some at first week of resumption with focus on a productive results in the term but sometimes , some Teachers , Staff and Learners are lost during the holiday unknown to management until resumption when they can’t see the teachers they expected . Most times, it is the better and preferred teacher that leaves. This can be avoided or reduce if end of term mini- seminar (not elaborate) at the end of term and during closure. Bring an outsider or experts who can talk to the hearts of your staff and address issues that can lead to their exit. The learners can also be addressed to project the school , explain shortcomings and equally build their hope for next term. This is very important but remember to engage an outsiders you would have discuss with or an experts that knows the right questions to ask you to help his actions. This should not cancel a full Seminar at the beginning of next term two to prepare your staff and motivate your learners. This would cost you some money but the results would earn or recover whatever you must have spent. This is investment spending and not a loss. You can contact us for more strategies and other areas.
With the above strategies, you can increase enrollment in the First Term by leveraging the success and lessons learned from the Third Term.
